Risks
A lung transplant is a major and complex surgery. There are risks during the operation, in early recovery as well as in the longer term.
Risks vary from person to person. Your lung transplant consultant will discuss your particular risks in detail with you. Remember that you won’t experience all of the risks on this page. This is a list of what can happen.
Early risks
“After transplant, the risk of dying within the first 30 days is around 7-10%. At one year, about 80% of patients are alive after a transplant.”
- Dr Michelle Murray, Lung Transplant Consultant
