Accessibility considerations
Readability
We’ve made the website text as easy to understand as possible, based on ‘Plain English’ standards.
Text size and spacing
We use a larger text size to improve readability for our users. Generous line spacing and kerning (spacing between letters) also improves the readability of our website.
Font selection
We use a sans serif font that is optimised for screen readability for our users.
Colour contrast & use of colour
A and AA colour tests have been applied across our website on all text and backgrounds contrasts to ensure we are fully compliant.
Interaction patterns
Patterns are ways to describe best practices, explain good designs, and capture experience so that other people can reuse these solutions. Typical and expected interaction patterns were used throughout the site. This approach increases usability for users.
Semantic code
Code was developed for our website to cater for a wide range of devices, from desktop computers and mobile phones to screen readers. It was built in a way that even a very basic device can access the content and interpret it for a user. All pages are titled with the appropriate h1 as part of the AA specification.
Device settings
We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:
- zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
- navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
- navigate most of the website using speech recognition
- listen to most of the website using a screen reader
- view content in different ways without losing information or structure
